Last year, when the Commencement Class Giving drive was first introduced under the Annual Giving 07 (AG 07) campaign, 133 seniors became the first to respond with gifts in support of bursaries and scholarships for their juniors.
This year, as of 12 March 2009, a total of 618 seniors have supported Commencement Class Giving by making gifts to AG 08, translating to a whopping year-to-date increase of 361% increase in donor support!
Of the 618 donors so far, 51% gave through AG’s phonathon appeal and 35% during gown collection. The remaining 14% of donors gave in response to e-mail appeal.
Said Ms Ng Pheck Choo, the Development Office Associate Director who runs the AG campaign: “It’s just so wonderful to see more and more alumni from the commencement class coming forward to support AG. In fact, 68% of the alumni contacted responded to Phonathon appeals positively!”
Commencement Class Giving for AG 08 raised S$15,386 as of 12 March 2009, almost one month before the end of the campaign at 31 March 2009. Said Ms Ng: “The appeals made were for gifts of $8 or $20.08, but I am delighted to say that some seniors made bigger gifts. In fact, the biggest gift we received from the commencement class was $250!”
Said Mr Lim Zhen Qin, Computing '08: "I gave because I would like to do my bit in the capacity of an alumnus and working individual, to provide opportunities for others to pursue their tertiary education."
Mr Chong Mun Kim, Engineering '08, said: "As a recipient of bursaries prior to NUS, I've never forgotten about the kindness of my faceless benefactors and I wish to pay it forward through Annual Giving."
