Outstanding students at Duke-NUS GMS Singapore to get new scholarships, thanks to $6 million gift from Goh Foundation

As Singapore continues to grow as a biomedical sciences hub, the need for a new breed of doctors who will push new frontiers in medicine and healthcare delivery is on the rise.
Understanding this need, the Goh Foundation has made an endowed gift of $6 million to support scholarships at the new Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore (Duke-NUS GMS). The gift will be matched dollar for dollar by the Singapore Government, bringing the total value to $12 million.
The Goh Foundation Scholars Programme will support outstanding local and international students at Singapore’s only graduate medical school. Each scholarship, valued at $20,000 annually, is tenable for four years and can be used to cover tuition fees, as well as other educational and living expenses. For Academic Year 08/09, up to six scholarships will be awarded.
Supporting the Duke-NUS GMS’ bid to produce innovative physician-scientists, Mr Goh Cheng Liang, founder of the Goh Foundation said: “We believe, like them, that education and research hold the future for the nation, even more so in the fields of medicine and health.”
“We hope that our donation, together with others', will encourage the community to focus on important issues facing our society,” he added.
Expressing his appreciation, Duke-NUS GMS’ Executive Vice Dean Prof Ranga Krishnan said: “Scholarships like this Goh Foundation gift will alleviate the financial burden for our talented students to truly pursue their passion for medicine and science.”
